Thirsting For GodWhen I was growing up, our family tradition was to occasionally give gifts to one another (i.e. birthdays, holidays, etc). As a child, I considered it my mission to find my present before it was wrapped. I didn’t necessarily find out what it was, but I knew where it was, how big the bag was, etc. Sometimes of course... the shape was a dead give away, or perhaps the top of the bag was open and facing the “wrong” direction to conceal its contents. There were those occasions when the light was “wrong” and I “accidently” caught a glimpse of the item through the thin paper. Once the discovery was made, I would go back several times to check on my presents before they were moved from their hiding place and wrapped. During the day, at school and at home, I would think of the wonderful treasures awaiting me. The meditation was similar in taste to the full joy of that special day when I could have and hold all that was mine. Similarly, what the Christian world really needs in 2008 is a glimpse of who God is, a daily meditation upon Him. The Psalmist David enjoyed the Lord in his meditation... “O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; (Psalm 63:1).” In his headings, C.I. Scofield gives the Psalm a title, Thirsting For God. Dear friend, it is our prayer that you seek the treasures available to you in the Word of God, that you meditate on them by the hour, and that by them, you will truly develop a Thirst for God. You can know God personally right now, and live with Him eternally in the life to come, thanks to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Risen Savior. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)” |
