I Think...

Have you ever met anyone with an opinion? Ha!, ...Opinions are like teeth, most people are born with about 32 of them, but when those which are described as “wisdom” appear, they generally need to be removed.

Some wise individual once remarked, “We are, what we have been becoming.” Generally our opinions of various issues are formed as a result of past experience. When we are not particularly disappointed or enthralled with an event, we develop an average understanding and opinion. But when life, for whatever reason, dislodges us from our norm, we develop unusually strong or weak opinions.
Just how important are our thoughts and opinions?

Occasionally someone will ask me, “Do you want to know what I think about...? I usually am inclined to answer, “No.” Oh, I don’t mean to be rude, and I do realize that being sensitive to the thoughts and ideas of others is a great way to learn and to benefit from their knowledge and experience. After the shock of my initial answer, I try to follow up with something like, “...And I don’t want to tell you what I think either. What you and I think doesn’t really matter does it?” “But I would like to know what you believe the Lord thinks about this issue?”

Generally my shock tactic works and we are immediately able to go beyond the realm of opinion and into the realm of truth, as it is revealed in the Book of Truth, the Bible.
My friend, would you consider the fickleness of your own opinions. They are just opinions! Yours are no better than mine, and mine, no better than yours. What we really need, is to lay aside our opinions in preference to God’s Word.

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. (Psalm 119:9).
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. (Psalm 119:11).
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (Psalm 119:105).
