Evangelism / Revival

The two words, “Evangelism” and “Revival”, though very diverse in their meaning, are often used interchangeably to describe special meetings being conducted in local churches. Perhaps a brief description of each would help to clarify matters to those of us who might benefit from one or the other.

According to the Webster’s Dictionary, to “revive” is “to restore to consciousness or life,” it can also mean, “to restore from a depressed, inactive, or unused state.” By virtue of the definition, before something can be revived, it must be alive.

This is where the word “evangelism” enters. Webster has defined “evangelize” as “to preach the gospel to.” We know that the gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, came to this earth to purchase our pardon from sin, through His death, burial and resurrection from the dead. Jesus said, “...I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10b).” He explains, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).” This could be you!

With this explanation of terms, may I suggest that it is likely that both you and I are in need of either one or the other. If you have never received Christ as your personal Saviour, you need to be “evangelized.” And for those of us who are believers, it seems obvious, we need to be revived.

Faith Bible Church would like to help. On March 21-26 we will conduct meetings with an emphasis on both Evangelism and Revival. Our guest speaker will be Evangelist Jerry Sivinksty who has been called of the Lord to stir the hearts of men with life changing messages from God’s Word. We will also enjoy the ministries of Glen and Jan Christianson who will minister through good and godly music.

Please plan to join us on Sunday, March 21, at 9:30am, 10:45am and 6:00pm. And then Monday through Friday at 7:00pm. You may wish to call for more information: 717-361-8200. I hope to see you there!
