Blood Bought

What was your most expensive purchase thus far in life? Perhaps your vehicle is your “big ticket” item, or maybe you have purchased a home or a business for several hundred thousand dollars.

As impressive (or depressing) as some price tags are, the most cherished treasures that we enjoy today were not purchased with dollars, but with blood. Without a doubt, the most precious of all commodities is life’s blood. There is no greater price to pay.

As morbid and gory as it might sound, we must not fail to remind every generation of the awful price of blood, that was paid for our freedom. From the mortal wounds of countless heroes and heroines, life’s blood was spilled on the battlefields of the world. As a result of their great sacrifice, it can be said that you and I live in “the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.”

Sadder still is the multiplied evidence that these “blood bought” freedoms are eroding away on our watch. That which was paid for by the blood of the selfless is being sacrificed to the political whims of the selfish. We who have made no sacrifice, have failed to appreciate their sacrifice for us.

Thank God for those who have served, and do serve us on the blood soaked battlefields of the world. God help us not to forfeit for a fancy what they have purchased for us with their precious life’s blood.

It may come as a surprise to some, but the value of blood was not recognized first by man, but God. Before time began He determined that “...without shedding of blood is no remission" (Hebrews 9:22b). True to His promises, He sent His own Son to die on a cruel cross, to shed His life’s blood so that we might be forgiven and reconciled to God. Jesus died, was buried and rose from the dead the third day. He lives at the right hand of God the Father where He waits for you to come to Him by faith. Thank God for the blood!
